Education
The Education Bureau is committed to providing quality educational and vocational programs and library services that will assist the incarcerated individual to become responsible members of the family, workforce, and community upon release. This will be accomplished through teamwork, dedication, and collaboration with other departments, agencies, and the community at large.

Addiction Services
The mission of Addiction Services is to increase public and institutional safety, reduce recidivism, and increase the capacity of offenders to live responsible lives through aggressive treatment of substance addiction. Addiction Services provides extensive therapeutic community (TC) and addictions outpatient treatment services throughout the NMCD correctional system. Addiction Services also facilitates the provision of volunteers for parenting programs, faith-based mentoring programs, Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) programs. At Western New Mexico Correctional Facility, Addiction Services facilitates a 16-bed Meditation Pod.

Faith Based
The New Mexico Corrections Department is fortunate to have an outstanding group of faith-based volunteers who serve in all of our state prisons and who also provide aftercare encouragement for ex inmates returning to the community. Two of our faith-based volunteer ministries are providing innovative and effective programming that are increasingly receiving more attention by other Corrections Departments. These are the Catholic mentor program coordinated by Sister Sue Reif and the Crossings Faith-based living unit program found at five of our facilities coordinated by Executive Director and former New Mexico DOC Deputy Warden, Jan Thomas.

Volunteer Services
The New Mexico Corrections Department appreciates the hard work and dedication of our volunteers. We recognize the priority of our volunteers having access to relevant training materials that will assist them serve with confidence in the prisons and that will also assist them in the recruitment of friends who are interested in becoming volunteers. Furthermore, our revised volunteer handbook is provided as a training resource to fulfill our goal of providing standardized training materials for all of our state prison volunteers.
