Goals & Objectives of NMCD Reentry and Reform Efforts
Decrease reincarceration rates:
Ensure evidence-based programming and services for inmates while incarcerated and ensure a seamless transition to ongoing services and programs in their home communities.
Create organizational change within the department to foster new ideas and behaviors that support reentry and reform efforts:
Engage with all NMCD staff regarding reentry and reform vision, reentry programs, policies and procedures, and provide staff education and training
as necessary and appropriate.
Engage in ongoing research and program evaluation:
Set up departmental infrastructure to allow for a research component of reentry and reform and to increase quality data collection and outcome measures.
Establish reentry centers in appropriate facilities statewide:
To develop comprehensive evidence-based reentry programming that addresses all the reentry needs of offenders, and the administrative and security needs of the facilities.
Increase public awareness and support for NMCD Reentry and Reform efforts:
Create and disseminate a reentry, reintegration, and prison reform public education campaign.
Ensure reentry programming is effective through quality assurance and quality improvement:
Create assessment tools to measure efficacy of comprehensive reentry programming within prisons and in the community.
Increase opportunities for maintaining family ties while incarcerated, and to view family relationships as being key to successful reintegration:
Facilitate greater involvement of families in the reentry and reintegration process.
Obtain legislative support for NMCD reentry and reform efforts:
To build long-term state government support and sustainability for prison reentry and reform.
